Volunteer Spotlight: Julia Guerrein

Julia Guerrein (pronounced gare-in) graduated from Penn State Behrend in 2019. In 2022, she received her J.D. from Vermont Law School, and a Master of Philosophy from Homerton College, University of Cambridge, in England. After graduating, Julia clerked for the Vermont Superior Court in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. She is currently an associate attorney at Cooley, Cooley & Foxx, Inc., in Burlington, Vermont. Her practice focuses on civil litigation and professional liability defense.

Julia is also co-chair of the Vermont Bar Association Attorney Well-Being Division. In her spare time, Julia enjoys cooking and baking, reading, traveling, and spending time with her cat, partner, family and friends.

Julia feels very strongly that the ability to receive an education, particularly higher education like a legal education, is an extreme privilege. Since she has been fortunate enough to become an attorney, she sees it as her personal duty to use her skills to help others.

She has volunteered at LSV’s Rent Escrow Clinic and Family Law Clinic, where she has helped her clients find solutions while learning from their lived experiences.

Pro bono legal services are vital because they increase access to justice for members of our community who would otherwise be navigating the legal system alone. Volunteering is also a great way for attorneys, both new and experienced, to learn areas of the law they may not otherwise and to make positive contributions to our community.
